Course Schedule

Day 1 - Intro: Occlusion 1
Fri 6th Jan 2012

Principles of Occlusion and Articulators A day to break down many of the myths and uncertainties surrounding the subject of occlusion articulators and facebows. In the afternoon, there is a practical session on jaw manipulations occlusal registrations and facebows.

Day 2 - Occlusion 2
Sat 14th Jan 2012

TMD, Tooth Wear, Dahl appliances and Occlusal Splints. This day is a laboratory based day and includes a practical session on facebows and mounting of study casts on a semi-adjustable articulator there is then a practical session grinding and fitting a Michigan Splint.

Day 3 - Anterior Direct Composite Restorations
Sat 11th Feb 2012

An update on current bonding systems and composites, followed by a practical session on aesthetic composite layering techniques.

Day 4 - Posterior Composites and Bonded Amalgams
Sat 10th March 2012

The indications for the use of direct and indirect composites along with the use of amalgams today. A very practical day allowing placement of direct posterior composites, cavity preparation for indirect composites and placement and carving of bonded amalgams.

Day 5 - Dentures; Full and Partial
Sat 21st April 2012

A day to explore alternative and more predictable methods of full denture construction; also to discuss the principals and treatment options now available for the use of partial dentures, focusing on precision attachments.

Day 6 - Endodontics
Sat 19th May 2012

An update on what the current idea's, materials, concepts and techniques are in endodontic practice. A day to update your knowledge and have hands on experience and supervision with a variety of endodontic techniques. The day is taken by Dr Mike Siswick, who's practice is devoted to endodontics.

Day 7 - Crown Preparations 1
Sat 9th June 2012

An update on impression materials and techniques, followed by phantom head sessions on crown preparations. Information on the principles of preparation design and burrs used will be given, different impression materials can be tried to record the preps you have just completed.

Day 8 - Crown Preparations 2
Sat 7th July 2012

A continuation of crown preparations on phantom heads followed by a discussion on the different materials available for full and partial restorations, the indications for each of these materials and how to achieve better communication with your laboratory to obtain more predictable results.

Day 9 - Implants
Sat 18th August 2012

A days overview of implantology, including the inclusion of implants into everyday restorative dental practice. A discussion of simple componentry, what techniques are currently available and how to assess patients correctly. Practical sessions then on placing implants in dummy jaws and chance to become more familiar with some of the componentry.

Day 10 - Smile Design and Veneer Preparations
Sat 8th Sept 2012

A discussion on the art of creating of a functionally aesthetic smile, from planning and diagnostic stage, to predictable provisional restorations, preparation design for different situations, to a stress-free cementation visit.

Day 11 - Bridgework
Sat 6th Oct 2012

A revision of bridge design and predictability. By considering the bio-mechanical and aesthetic factors, what materials are available for functionally aesthetic bridgework. A very practical day using the phantom heads to prepare abutment teeth for different spans of bridges in different situations.

Day 12 - Periodontology
Sat 10th Nov 2012

A day to examine current understanding of periodontal disease, from initial presentation, examination, investigation through to current treatment regieme's. There will also be a practical session on crown lengthening in the afternoon. The day is taken by Dr Mark Howdle, specialist in Periodontics.

Day 13 - Posts, Treatment Planning and Practice Marketing
Fri 7th Dec 2012

A chance to pull together all things learned throughout the course using some of the Academy's own cases to Treatment Plan, along with delegates own cases which can be opened up for general discussion. In the afternoon, how to market your newly learned skills and practice more fulfilling dentistry, whilst earning more profit, in less time.
